The overall climate in the United States, and around the world, is changing. Our cities are being covered with concrete jungle and the air-proof concrete road more and more. This is due to the lack of water permeability and air permeability of the common concrete pavement; the rainwater is not filtered underground. Without a constant supply of water to the soil, plants are difficult to grow normally. In addition, it is difficult for soil to exchange heat and moisture with air; therefore, the temperature and humidity of the earth’s surface in large cities cannot be adjusted. This brings the phenomenon of the hot island in the city, also at the same time, the plash on the road during a rainy day reduces the safety of traffic of vehicle and foot passenger. To overcome this problems, pervious concrete pavement also known as permeable pavement, porous pavement is constructed. Pervious concrete pavement is a unique and effective technique to meet future demand.
Pervious concrete pavement addresses important environmental issues and support green, sustainable growth. By capturing stormwater and allowing it into the ground, porous concrete is involved in recharging groundwater, reducing stormwater runoff. This pavement technology creates more efficient land use by eliminating the need of retention ponds and other stormwater management devices. In doing so, pervious pavement has the ability to lower overall project costs.
